The city of Bialystok is situated in the centre of the Podlaskie Province, on the Podlasie lowland, in the macro-region of the Bialystok Highland. It is the biggest city of the north-eastern Poland, the capital of the Podlaskie Province.

Monuments
The market square, called the Kosciusko Square at present, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral Church (the old church) - the oldest monument preserved in the city, completed in 1621. It was founded by Piotr Wiesiołowski Młodszy. In the times of Jan Klemens Branicki the church was rebuilt, gaining its rococo image. What attract special attention is the organ as well as the statue of Jan Klemens Branicki that was erected in 1775 by Izabela Branicka. The Parish Church - a neo-gothic church built at the beginning of the 20th century designed by Józef Pius Dziekoński. The Town Hall with the Clock Tower - erected in 1761. the building presently houses the Regional Museum with its rich collections of art, ethnography, and archaeology. St. Nicolas, the Wander Worker Orthodox Church - built in the years 1843 - 1846, replaced the former wooden Unite church. The Orthodox church is Byzantine in its character. St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church - built in the years 1741-58, founded by Jan Klemens Branicki. The Branicki Palace - designed by fine Baroque architects: Jan Henryk Klemm, Jan Zygmunt Dejbel, and Jakub Fontana. The shape of the palace was in line with the great French Baroque assumptions. One of very few, this residence met the requirements of the contemporary and extremely complicated, as it s seen today, etiquette of receiving crowned heads "Dom Koniuszego" or House of the Equerry - from1771, served the Branicki family to receive guests of lesser importance. Saint Roch Church - "a monument" of Poland 's gaining its independence in 1918. Its construction started in 1928 and it was completed after the World War II. It is one of the most interesting buildings in Europe of the inter-war period.
